I'v just driven 70 miles of dark country back roads in the pouring rain with only diped beams working and I need them sorted before Monday morning, its not much fun. When I left work I blew the horn to get the security gaurds attention to open the gate (he was hiding out of the rain) and a few minutes later relised that I had know full beams unless I pull the stalk towards me like when I flash the lights. I think it has to be the stalk thats at fault. I never use the horn maybe twice a year so I think this may have caused the problem as its on the same stalk. I think I can get one in the morning from a scrapyard, if not the main stealers Monday but I'm sure they wont have one in stock. Its a 1999 TD5, does anybody think it could be something else, or agree that the stalk is the most likely.
Thanks Jim.

The scrap yard hasnt got one so I'm snookered unless its a relay or something else thats broken. If a relay had gone would it still be possible to flash the full beams?

I have a feeling that pulling the stalk to flash someone uses a seperate circuit that doesn't go through the relay.

My old V8 did a similar thing when I had it and that was down to the dim dip relay. Being an early TD5 it may have a dim dip relay. Have a look and if it does have one try pulling the plug for a few minutes and then re-connecting it.

If you don't have a dim dip relay then try switching your main beam relay for a different one.

When you go to main beam do all the light go out?, see above.

Sorry I missed your replies I've been most of the day messing with it. Yes when I switch to full beam I'm left with side lights only. I swaped the relays around and they are all good so it is the switch. I took it out and found where it was not making contact when I pushed the stalk foward and I managed a temporary fix hope it holds long enough until I can get another one.
Thanks for the replies Jim.
