I'm about to put my roof bar on my 200 disco, but as I'm not used to these modern cars and those funny head lining things (only ever done series), whats the best place to take the live from for lamps? Battery or is there a better place to take it from.
Plus, where have people put CB radios in the cab is they seem a bit limited on space for a CB.
Cheers.

Cheers mate, think I'll use the last wiring diagram so i can have it with main beams, off all together or just on with an on/off/on isolator switch.
So as for the other part, where have people put their CBs?

well i moved my sterio from its normal place a put it in the glove box cubby hole thing so mabe you could mount it there, or move you sterio the and put the cb in the sterio hole
i only moved mine as it had so many wires on the back it didn fit

my CB is where the winder was for the sunroof, if you get some stiff wire like a straightened coathanger and some electricians tape you can feed/pull the wires over the headlining and down the A pillar quite easily without too much fuss. i used the live feed from the interior light as i wanted to be able to run the CB independantly from the ignition. the CB up high seems better if the speaker is on the underside of it, in a noisy truck.

Thanks for the help everyone, but one last thing, what guage or ampage wire would I want to use when wiring the light bar. I can't remember what I used on the series.

divide the wattage of all the lamps by the voltage (13.5V) and that will give you the current draw.

If it's 4 x 100W =400/13-5= 30amps(rounded up) so make sure you use a 30amp fuse & correctly rated wiring.

A common method is to wire each lamp individually with 10amp wire and then join them all together and connect to a length of 30Amp wire.

best to err on the side of caution and use 12.5 volts, not 13.5 - this gives you a slightly higher current rating.

and dont forget to fuse it!

Fair enough then. I plan on using 4x55w lamps so 20 amp wire and a 20 amp fuse after the relay should do shouldn't it? Plus the standard main beam fuse should do shouldn't it for live feed?

NO - use a seperate live feed and just use the main beam line to trigger a relay.

Also, another seemingly daft question, but what's the best place to take the main beam live from? And also, what colour(s) is the wire?
Cheers.

get a circuit tester and turn on low beam and which ever wire is live isn't the highbeam wire.. cut it wherever it's easiest and solder or crimp a new wire onto it and run to ya relay.

You didnt read the whole thread I've posted here on the first page did ya? lol

I took the main beam live from the back of the fuse box.
You just need to find which are the fuses for the main beam, I think it's A3 and A4.. but there's a symbol there, all you need is a multimeter to confirm which comes live when you turn main beam on
