Lift Kits

I am interested in fitting a lift kit to my recently purchased 1996 300tdi, as it will b used 4 launching my boat on a beach & I would like 2 keep the underneath as far away from the sea water as possible. Wot actually does a lift kit do? Wot parts r required? Can I fit it myself? Wot is it likely 2 cost, either parts only or for a garage 2 fit?

It only lifts the body - yo axles and brakes are still the same distance from the ground.

it's longer springs and shocks so the axles dont move but the chassis/body does. If you stick too 2" lift then you can get away with just changing the shocks and springs go higher and you need to change the flexi brakelines, radius and trailing arms fit spring relocators. etc etc. compromise road handling and wear out props, as too price how long is a piece of string.???

Yep, a bigger wheel/tyre combo is the only thing that'll lift all of yer motor.

Loads of jet washing & a regular waxoyling would be a better/easier/cheaper idea.

I know it will not lift axles etc just trying 2 get floorpan/chasis higher. Wot tyre/rim combination could I fit 2 lift it that way & how much lift could I get?

U R talkin lik U r txtn. If U lift yr chassis by 2" u cn put 285 weelz on it which r about n inch or so bigger thn 235s. If U go mor thn 2" u will need serius modz so don't!

However, if you're doing it to stop sea water getting to the chassis forget it, the sea will splash and you won't be able to judge the 2" or 3" difference anyway so it's a bit pointless! Loads of clean water will still be necessary to stop yr chassis rusting. Most of the sea water hitting the chassis and body will come from splash-up anyway so a lift will just mean the splashed water has to travel a couple of inches further, so it will hit it slower.

Land Rover and sea water... Mmmn... sounds like the perfect habitat for tin worm !

Thanks for the replies guys. I know that i shouldn"t go in the sea with her but the boat is too heavy to push on the sand. I only go in half way up the back wheels, but an extra couple of inches clearance would be comforting.
