Hi,

I have a 300tdi '95 Def. Recently converted to LHD as I now live in Ghana. It's pretty tough to get parts here... most "new" Landy parts are poor quality rip offs from Nigeria and there isn't too big a pile of old Landies to get decent second hand parts from. Anyway, trying to see if I can convert my windscreen wiper motor/system to wipe the other way. I've taken the motor apart and moved the spindle arm to try and reverse the direction but without success. Any ideas? Or do I need to find parts? All help most welcome. Cheers Nomadafrik.

You need parts, look on the bulkhead where the wiper spindles go and you'll see two grommets, these are blanking plugs for either left or right hand drive, you need to swap your spindles into the other holes and put the grommets into the holes where the spindles came from. Then you need the tubes for the wiper cable to join it all back up again, the motor is in the same place for left or right hand drive, see attached pic for how it looks. You'll also need new wiper arms as these are sided

You need to strip the top of the dash out to do it.

To make the wipers park at the clockwise end of their travel (viewed from the drivers seat), remove the 2 gearboxes on the linkage and re-mount them the other way round. I know this works because I did it by accident and spent ages trying to find out why they parked the wrong end!
I wonder if you can shorten the linkage tubes and then re-flare the end using a brake flaring tool?

Thanks for that too. I've switched them over, but think have buggered the motor by playing with it too much. Tough love maybe? Anyway, will have a go at changing over the gear switches (presume there are 2, just below the washer themselves) at some stage. Luckily, it won't rain here until the end of April, so have a bit of time to sort... Thanks for the advice.
