LH rear of tank outrigger...

I need to replace the above, I noticed today that the seatbelt fixing is mobile, and due to the lack of metal between it and the outrigger I think I will need to replace this.

The aluminum around the seatbelt fixing is a little corroded, but for MOT standard does this matter? Afterall its the outrigger thats holding the seatbelt, I will patch it though.

So I get the new part from PC/radocks, unbolt the seatbelt fixing from the old rigger, then do I just cut the old one off? Will I need to redrill the hole in the chassis or does the new part come slightly smaller as to fit into the original hole?

I think I will get the part and then get a friend to weld it, I can weld but I am not sure I trust my welding in that A, its an MOT failure if its dodgey, and B it could be someones life.

Right I have just bought the new outrigger, should be here for weekend.

Had the LH rear of tank outrigger fitted today, I don't have a MIG welder so got a friend to do it. I just thought I would bring this to a conclusion as it seems no one has any experience of this repair, so heres the plan.

Get hold of a new one, from C/Padocks.

Cut the old one off as close to chassis as possible, grind it down and clean up your weld area, clean up the area around the hole on the otherside aswell.

Now there are two plans here; either, you drill out the old one and re-gain the original hole size, or on the new part, cut down the middle of the area that slides into the hole, thus allowing you to squeeze it in, knock it in, line it up with the braket which goes up to the tub/seatbelt bracket, bolt this on first get it squareish, this will also help keep it in place when welding and means that you have it in the righ position!

Give it a good welding right round the edges and then repeat this process on the back aswell, wait till it cools a bit and blast the lot with some paint.

Job done, approx cost (if you can MIG weld yourself) for all your materials £20.
