Leaf springs short

Hi
Fitting new leaf springs as my old RM springs are sagging. Got some new ones from ebay however when fitting they are coming up short in length. They measure 64cm either side and are being fitted to a Series III landy. The pin is centered but still they seem woefully short - see attached image[GALLERY=][/GALLERY]

you fit that end first then use a jack to straighten spring out to get rear to fit shackles

Still not adding up. I have attached an image with both the ends connected to the chassis. It still seem short. When I offer up the spring to the axle using the jack the spring is forced inside the hanger so can never push out and flatten. Never had this problem with the fronts.

Any suggestions

Hard to tell without seeing both ends and the centre in the same photo.
In the second image it almost looks like the spring is going under the axle its that far out.

stupid question ahoy, but is the weight of the vehicle actually on the spring in that picture ? obviously the distance between eyes gets longer the more they are compressed flat...

anyway, to give you an idea, rear springs should be 48 inches long, but thats if you laid a tape measure along the top arch from spring eye to spring eye, not in a straight line from eye to eye. (does that make sense ? you would get a shorter answer if it were straight line eye to eye)

Manual gives 48 inches for rear springs think that is measured eye bolt centre to eye bolt centre.

When I did my 88" I fitted the shackle end, used a block of wood between the chassis and the other end to keep it at the right level and then jacked up the centre.

I do remember it being a faff with lots of finger crunching potential.

Hi Thanks for the replies.
@Bobsticle: The other end of the spring is attached to the chassis but it is just hanging - no pressure/weight being applied to the spring. When I do offer the spring to the axle the chassis just starts lifting and I can never get the spring to the bottom of the axle

@DarrenHS3/@Blackburn: I'll measure the spring and see what the length is

@BlueBeasty: That was going to be my next plan of attack.

I've got my old springs but dont really want to fit them. These are Britpart speacials so might be off. Are they handed - I cant find any info anywhere. Failing that I'll order another set of RM Para's seeing as they are being imported again - the original sets were RM's

best to jack and support the truck from the chassis rails. then you can manoeuvre the axles independently with the jack. so basically leave the spring, then jack the axle up to the spring.
