Hi guys, I'm aware that there are many threads on here about soundproofing, however I couldn't really find much specific to what I was looking for.

Have any of you lovely lot, mainly those of you that drive the van bodied defenders had much experience with the noise killer engine and transmission 'blankets', and if so are they worth getting, or is one better to have than the other? I sit at about 50 mph in my TD5, and I'm starting to go deaf!!

think about cooling they will prevent
 
Wont effect cooling.
Cheapest answer is ear plugs, the soft ones are the dogs whatsits, and contrary to what some ****s will tell you, you can still hear what is going on they just take the harshness out of the noise.
 
Mine had the transmission blanket on it when I got it so can't say what it would be like without it. I did put some insulation under the drivers and passenger seat and over where the third middle seat goes and that has made a difference. Which has also made a difference. I can now hold a conversation at 70mph without straining my voice. It's still not as quiet as a car but has made a big difference and makes it more enjoyable to drive.
 
TD5s have acoustic coverings over thr engine anyway.

Want to make it much it costs money but imo worth it, especially if you drive it everyday/long distance.

Dynamat/Fatmat/Roof Flashing
CLOSED Cell Foam - in various thickness
Rubber Matting

I can have a normal conversation at 70 now. Around town its as quiet as my old Fiesta.

Lol yeah I'm very familiar with the engine cover, it vibrates like buggery even when all 3 bolts are nice and tight, leading to actually mote cabin noise, or at least adding to it!!!
 
Heavy stable matting will kill a lot of the noise that comes in through the floor and footwells (and its cheap and easy to cut and fit), if it's a van, get the interior sides carpeted or similar, as they seem to amplify noise.

Well if that much heat is being generated in the bellhousing that it would be of any concern you've got big transmisson problems anyway! (it just wouldn't be a factor) And as for the engine blanket, well the TD5 isn't air cooled is it?? It won't be an issue at all!!

air flow does help it along. why do you think cars over heat in traffic jams
