Hi there all

I have a Freelander 1999 2.0 td (not TD4) had the same issues of the car using water . No visible signs of water in the engine,(milky residue) no visible signs of leaks on the pipes , compression test on the system was all good , gas test on the system to determine if the head was gone .. all good .. , no leaks in the interior ( the heater ) .. but i was still using alot of water Where the hell was the water going ??? all forums shouted ,, head gasket but that would have shown up in the gas test. ..

`recently i took on the job of replacing my starter motor( no it wasnt the problem lol) . To easily remove and replace the starter motor you can remove a few pipes to gain easier access. I by chance removed the small radiator right next to the main one which connects to the turbo.

I did a pressure check on this and it had a small leak near the bottom. I had this repaired. replaced the starter motor , radiator and the few hoses and since then i have not lost a drop of water in level. look im not saying this is the answer to everyones issues but it solved the mystery of the water going .

Im not a mechanic , rather a studio sound engineer . but i love my freelander , have done alot of the work on it myself .Done 230 000km and hopefully good for another 200 000 .
