Hi Guys, Having a front light issue, has been working fine then stopped at services the other day and main lights would not turn on. Sidelights OK, full-beam works, but after few minutes once warmed up then suddenly turn on!

I have changed the light switch 9looking at old one was corroded green inside a little)(Not dipper switch), as read these are renowned for issues, this has been changed and still does the same thing.

Any ideas, I'm not brilliant at electrics and do not have meters anything. What should be the next thing to try?

regards Pete

What sort of vehicle are we talking here?

Landrover 90 Defender 1990 year 90 4C SW Dt Diesel (about to be changed to a 200 or 300tdi
OK. So a 2.5 TD Ninety.
Have a look inside the plastic cover, above the trans tunnel, where the fuses are. There should be some relays, one of which is to do with the lights. Try removing the relay, spraying the contacts with contact cleaner, and letting it dry, then spray with some WD40 and replace.
if that doesn't work, might be worth replacing the relay, they are only a few quid.

Hi the plastic cover with 2 large screw knobs? behind that, I see a metal plate with glass fuses, looks like relays behind the plate, how to remove or get to relays to remove and spray?

Ok wondered if that was it, can get one from Paddock...Presume steering wheel off to change that? What socket size is needed anyone know?

As far as I can remember, you just split the plastic housing behind the wheel, think it might just be pozi screws, can't really remember.
If you are hoping to maintain that vehicle yourself, you need to get a manual with a wiring diagram, a good set of tools, and a cheap multimeter, or you are going to struggle.

You need to be checking voltages and tracing the fault , not just swapping out parts, swapping out a part may not fix the problem, just the symptoms. You are literally playing with fire. That photo shows heavily corroded and oxidised fuses and fuse holders, that isnt good, its a reflection of what condition the overall electrical system is in. You may well have a steep learning curve ahead of you to sort that lot out, but you can start at the start and finish at the end and we can talk you through it all step by step if you wish.
