hi guys, just to say hi and happy new year to all. had landrover for 3 years and love it. just got a recent problem though and need some advice. recently when my car is cold it starts but seems to lack power when accelerating for a few mins untill its warmed up then rights itself. doesnt always do it though and was wondering what it might be. a friend of mine sugested it might be the fuel filter may need replacing and regassing?. it does seem when im driving that perhaps a lack of fuel may be the cause as it rights itself after a while. is it possible that the filter is **** up and ounce im driving it clears it then when its left sitting it settles again bringing the problem back again. i contacted landy main dealer and they sugested diagnostics check £60 before they even toutch it. then about £65 to fit a new fuel filter and regas. can anyone offer any advice on this, im in the stoke on trent area or can anyone point me to someone i can trust to have a look cheers guys. p.s sorry about the essay but needed to go into detail.
 
hey mad hat man. i got what sean says i got.lmao. thanks for speaking guys, been on a few forums with some right miserable ****s who never reply. any advice now we know which landrover. another thing i wondered was could it be the fuel pump suplying juice to the engine or would this just be bollocks im talking.???

oh - and as for "would this just be bollocks im talking.???" - most likely - its part of the registration process, but it sounds a good starting point to me.

i'm no expert but my deepender 90 td5 does the same when cold its been in to the stealers for a related problem (slow throttle response) but still does it when cold .
so i'm thinking it could be the ECU holding back til its warmed up (so you dont do any damage before the oil is serculated properly );)
will find out on mine anyway as i have issues to bring up with the stealers tomorrow .
 
never done it at all yesterday. started from cold went around town, parked up for a few hours then drove home. parked again for a few hours then went my m8s. no probs. got in today at 5 and went work it was fine. came home at 1, sterted again. no power hardly coming up bank to home then all of a sudden in 3rd it powered up and started speeding up, only being running for 2-3 mins when this happened. im stumped but to be honest dont know **** about how a car works, just how to move them.
 
have you changed the fuel filter yet ?

if your in stoke and want to keep your hands clean try beamends
 
What Sean says. Fuel filters get bunged up with crap and create a track through themselves which allows a restricted flow which in turn gets bunged up and occasionally clears itself creating the slow/fast effect.
 
Welcome to you & your brilliant Freelander. As the other guys say, change your fuel filter first as the official service interval is way too long at 60,000 miles. Also start using Millers powersport 4 diesel additive in your fuel to help keep injectors clean. There are two types of pump/filter fitted to the Td4. From 2000-2002 they were fitted under the bonnet much like traditional diesel fuel filters, but from 2002 on they were moved to under the drivers side rear wheelarch & you need to remove the wheel & part of the arch liner to access the assembly. Two 10mm bolts seen from the side, one 10mm bolt underneath, remove the fuel pump power plug & unclip a couple of fuel pipes to release the pump/filter/sedimenter assembly & change the filter on the bench. It will be very tightly fitted inside the housing. Also drain the sedimenter at this point (loosen the small tap on the bottom & drain out). Once refitted the system is self priming. If you have the earlier underbonnet filter, then do a search on here as there is a hidden screw which needs to be released but is well covered in other posts.
 
cheers guys, its a front fuel pump and to be honest i dont know **** about mechanics so will have to take it somewhere. what sean and cabbie say describes it pretty well so will get fuel filter changed. was beamends a name i can search on the net or can someone give me a tele number or something cheers jase.

BeamEnds (Land Rover Spare Parts)

I found this in about 30 seconds & I don't even have a clue where stoke-on-trent is. If you don't learn to search, then you'll end up being ridiculed or ignored by most folk here. Hope you get your Landy sorted.
 
only just got back on the site so not ignoring anybody. got fuel filter changed and hasn't made a difference so took to landrover to do a diagnostic and they said could be air flow sensor but 99% sure its the fuel pump. they quoted me £250 fitted with genuine parts. my only concern is that the pump they have told me goes at the back under the wheel arch but on mine the filter is at the front behind the battery with what looks like the pump next to it or am i talking crap. i gave them my reg number and they said the rear fitting one is correct. the part number is wfx000181 and i have seen them on the bay brand new for £110 delivered. landrover wanted £175 + vat + fitting. is there any difference between genuine parts and other makes or is it just main stealer nonsense and will a cheaper pump do. my m8 owns a garage and said if i supply the pump he will fit for £30 so might get job done for around £150 saving a £100. fair point about searching for stuff people tell you about on here as well as mentioned in previous post. i normally do but on this occasion was being a lazy arse.... sorry lads and ladies (if any)lol.
