Land rover discovery 2 clutch push rod too long?

Just a quick question regarding the slave cylinder push rod, or pin :

When I push the slave cylinder on to the push rod it needs force to push it on, the rod pushes the piston back in the slave, by quite a way so in a sense, there is constant pressure there. Is this correct?
