Hello everybody
I am reaching out because i have a question about the chassis of my 1984 Land Rover 110. The chassis as it stands now has two patches, one at the rear end of the right rail, where the cross-member is ,and one at about the middle of the right rail. I would like to have someone with great experience remove the patches and add new metal to the chassis in order to guarantee its structural integrity. Is that possible ? My only limitation is that i do not wish to replace the whole cross-member. Please find attached pictures of the patches.

Apostolos, apart from one area there's nothing wrong with that welding. I has good deep weld penetration and is strong. The area that's poor penetration is the last photo on right hand side - you may like to buzz this back/undercut and re-weld. Don't worry about the 'V', nor the odd repair patch shapes...though normally one would cut and roll/profile repair patches to match the parent metal's exact profile. Providing the steel is good and strong and there's no patch corrosion, leave as is.

If you want to be 200% sure of integrity buzz back the patch areas to clean bare metal. Dye pen test welds, repair if needed, and then retreat with a zinc acid etch primer, then coat with a good quality chassis black [Frost or Eastwoods chassis black], then a final coat of BiltHamber or Dinitrol.
