l322 td6 won’t start

hi,

my 2003 l322 td6 won’t start

seems like an electronic issue, as it has been intermittent. however now doesn’t start at all.


whenever it does start. i can hear quite a noticeable buzzing/whirring noise when the ignition is on. i assume this is the fuel pump.

i have scanned for codes and haven’t got any.

the permanent failure came just after i removed the key barrel in order to repair the central locking. would this cause some immobiliser or electronic control to stop it starting.


i have checked for fuel presence at the fuel filter outlet and do get fuel flow even when i cant hear the audible buzzing. i assume this means that noise is something else? and if it didn’t have enough pressure, surely it would throw and error code.

the battery wasn’t the most lively and wonder wether it’s quite sensitive to battery voltage?

i have also heard it has 2 fuel lift pumps maybe one of them has failed?

Have you charged the battery? What does it read? What does the battery read while the engine cranks?

Or high pressure fuel regulator. Common fault.

so i’ve charged the battery overnight, and it started fine. i will run it for a bit and then see if it starts when hot. there was definitely and fuel pump sound that i couldn’t hear yesterday when started this morning. i assume the battery could of been too low for one of the fuel pumps or ecu to work properly? what would the symptoms of a faulty high pressure fuel regulator be?

There would be fuel pressure faults in the engines ecu to start with
Have your battery checked for capacity. It could be tired.

For me it started with taking longer to fire up. Usually it's on the button but it started taking longer and longer until the inevitable.
If I used easystart it would start and run fine. I did end up fitting a new HP fuel pump as well but the regulator was faulty and a cheap starting point.

a friends had the same problem untill i did a leak off test and found a faulty injector works fine now its been replaced

thanks for all your replies, I think I've finally figured it out. I took the cover for the inline fuel pump off. and discovered that when the car wouldn't start. the secondary fuel pump wasn't running. turns out the pump was the noise I could hear if the car did start. if it does it again. I will check for power at the connector just to make sure it's the pump and not the relay/other electrical problem. should be easy to replace and not too
expensive as well.
