L322 Knocking when pulling away

Hi All

Apologies for my first post being one to ask advice - I was registered on here a long time ago, but couldnt seem to log on with my old username etc.

Anyway, tonight I picked up a Range rover vogue td6 from a local land rover specialist. We bought the car 3 weeks ago and was a birthday present for the missus (on bank holiday monday) and as such we pumped a fair amount of savings into it.

Theres a number of unresolved issues that they are going to fix when it goes back on Tuesday, but I have noticed on the drive home that there is a knocking noise that happens two or three times when pulling away. its quite faint, but you can feel it through the car and hear it, and it sounds like its coming from the rear. Apparantly the garage have just changed the rear anti-roll bar bushes, but I am sure I didnt hear this on the test drive. It gets worse if you pull away harder rather than gently.

The noise reminded me of the time I had a perished propshaft donut on an old bmw - do these have a similar part that could perish and cause this?

Needless to say this and the other issues have left us fairly disapointed this weekend, but hopefully it'll come right.

Lots of bushes to wear out

Depending on the age of the car, most could well need changing by now

Hi Neil, welcome to the joy of L322 ownership .

Sounds to me more like a drive train issue than bushes.
I know The front prop has a doughut at the transfer box end.
Not sure about the rear prop without climbing underneath her.
I would take it easy and get it looked at sooner rather than later, the last thing you want is one of those going.
Put the suspension in off rd height and have a look, leave a door open whilst underneath to stop suspension dropping down whilst underneath and check for any obvious signs of wear...

Thanks for the advice. I am planning on spending most of the weekend giving it a good clean, so will take the opportunity to take a look underneath too.

My Dad has exactly the same car and year, and his doesnt have this "feature", so I will need to add it to the long list of items that needs investigation when it goes back on tuesday.

Found another problem since my last post too... the bloody CD changer cassette doesnt eject. argh..

I dunno about it being unreliable - we havent had it long enough to know. I think we are just dispointed that some of the items we asked to be fixed before we picked it up have not been done. But - I'm sure they will be eventually.

At this price point (sub 10k) it was never going to be as good as new, but it was the best of a whole host of rubbish we did look at.

anyway, CD Changer fixed - I gave it a good belt and it ejected and now works fine.
