Hello everyone, range rover l322 v8 4.4
I have been absorbing saint.v8 excellent fuel pump replacement In the sticky, however
I become stumped with just 1 of the push fit couplings on the top of the tank , it will not come at all , no matter what i do? Other one came off no bother.
Lifted red collar push down on right angled coupling but no avail.
I supposed i want to know is there a knack to removing these, i wondering if the coupling was compromised now?
Can you get the part separately or will i need the whole twin fuel Line from tank to filter to fix this issue i am having?
Is it necessary to replace filter at same time has My failed pump?
Has any one already rerouted this fuel line and. Was it difficult to do, sorry for all questions,Car is off rd until fixed
Frustrated at moment.

there is a knack push down on the fitting then at the same time lift the collar. i used a large flat blade screw driver after the collar was lifted to help but you need three hands .

one thing that has just come to me there could be suction pressure in the pipe. i pressed a allen key into the schrader valve in the engine bay to check for fuel pressure. you could try this? see if it helps put a rag over it while you do it though

Thanks for reply .I made sure before I started that theres was no fuel pressure . No fuel in rail prior to starting task, completely dry
:)

I agree another pair hands would be best , asked my older brother , but he's scared to death going anywhere near fuel tank.

It is really quite a fiddle as John says, you need 3 hands...one to push down, one to lift the collar and one to lift the connector up and off.

Good luck with it, I think re-routing a replacement pipe would be 10 times worse unless you drop the whole tank!

UPDATE GUYS .
The remaining coupling is now is off BUT compromised and now left me what options? I have my new replacement pump here now.

I also have a used replacement twin fuel pipe from tank to filter , how much work is there involved in tank drop or removal, or will I get away with a tank drop enough to remove and replace fuel lines? I have very limited space under car where its stood on normal ride height mode on a slope.
all of this for 1 stupid right angle push fit coupling.

has I any one another angle how to tackle and proceed with this job? thanks:confused:

DO NOT GO UNDER THE VEHICLE AND RELY ON THE AIR BAGS USE AXLE STANDS. have you broken the connector? see how much slack there is in the fuel line? i would prefer to replace the connector rather than the pipe? i have no knowledge of the route but if theres no fixings holding the lines in place maybe you could tape the new pipes to the old and pull them through? just a suggestion tho? im not sure

Thanks for reply,
yeah i am quite safety conscious. And always use axle stands
Yes , the connector is broken, there is very little slack in line. Feels like hidden clips holding it back, line quite difficult to manipulate around too
I also would very much prefer to simply replace the connector off the replacement line, i also don't know the routing of this twin fuel pipe other than it goes from tank to filter, hmmm, stumped, anyone any ideas, fuel tank removal would be virtually impossible wheres it sitting and very little room under neath to move at moment

Hello everyone. I have changed my pump in tank, but still have to figure out the best way. For. me to sort out one of the broken push fit connectors?

In meantime i noticed through the second tank hole where you stick your arm in to disconnect/reconnect 2 nd sender unit to pump sender housing

Question:how is the 2nd sender unit fastened in nearside tank has mine seem to be just Floating around ?
Is that correct?
Doesn't look right to me?

Just bench Tested my pump. And it was running.
Wasn't running in car, even after swopping fuel relay around prior to removing pump? What else could it be?

car was recovered on low loader ,had no fuel in fuel rail.

UPDATE:
New pump installed diy , genuine replacement fuel pipe installed,
recharged battery to full state , been off road since august, landrover main dealer couldnt start it diagnosed my vehicle at £300 diagnostic off the recovery lorry has a steering lock ecu failure £4,500 , (stealer)
that wasnt happening, bought it home anfd fixed it my self mainly from these excellent forums, car started 1st turn over of engine no spluttering instant , no fuel leaks , going to put carpet and trim back over next day or so has working alot at moment to see to it straightaway, so chuffed and satisfying when things go right,UNTILL the next job shows itself, which it will, lol, thanks for replies guy totally appreciated

Woohoo...love success stories...see the L322 isn't so DIY unfriendly is it?? Well Done chap!

Thanks saint.v8 down to you really that i had the confidence to tackle this job, would have had the help of my brother but he's scared to death of open fuel tanks and the likes, and wanted me to wear anti static clothing etc, lol
Had to do everything by myself longer but got there in the end,
Thank you so much everyone:)

However,Just one remaining issue to resolve now though, the fuel gauge has gone to pot, it does rise with more fuel in, but doesn't seem to go down much , it goes up on range if any?
never left key in when battery disconnected ,
so wonder if i could have upset floats on both senders when reinstalling? Oh well here goes again at a later date when i feel up to it again.
