L322 brake advice

Hi,

I'm starting a project on a 2003 L322 but have never so much as changed a wiper blade before so looking for some advice.

On the brakes I appreciate that there is rust on them but is that a definite red flag or is the severity of the rust more important?

Rust is not such an issue if the car has been stood. A good run will clean it off. If it dosent clean off evenly then something isnt right.
The problem is are they worn below the limit (or close) there is a min recommended thickness, how much lip is there on the outer edge of the discs? Its a heavy car and can wear them alot.
The bigger issue could be the calipers themselves not floating/sliding, The calipers move so as to apply even pressure to both side pads onto the disc. Some of your pics show a cleaner inner face area with rusty outer area.

This day and age they are considered consumables. Discs/Calipers/pads, dont forget you have handbrake shoes inside the rear discs.

TBH I would change the whole lot. and check the pipes while you are there.

This is a bit more technical than changing a wiper blade so get some tools first
