L320 blowout and cracked alloy

Turns out my recently bought RRS 2007 4.2 V8 SC has a cracked alloy that had a poor repair attempt which resulted in me getting a blowout on way to Manchester from London...thankfully controllable!

I bought a second hand tyre so I could get home but found the crack during replacement. It had been repaired with some gummy type material. I figured I would keep pumping up the tyre on way to London and get a proper repair when home...NOPE!

Tyre letting out air really quickly from the crack so now can't even pump it...so I am considering my options...

1) get another wheel and tyre to replace cracked one then repair cracked one properly (welding!) and keep the new wheel as a spare

2) find somewhere to repair the crack here in Manchester then drive it to London

I see potential issues in that I am unsure if full size wheels will fit in the spare compartment...do they need to be a certain size to fit or can most wheels go under there?!

It is Sunday now so everywhere closed so can't call around repair places to see if anyone can even do it at short notice...and in order to repair I will need to remove the wheel myself and get it to the repair place, wherever that may be.

Main questions I have are...

- Shall I get a full size wheel and it will fit under the car as a spare after? (If not maybe eBay it)

- I have 22" alloys, can I use a different size spare safely for my journey to London, such as a 19" or 20"?

- Any advice for repairing current alloy? I am in Manchester so even better if you can recommend somewhere suitable!

You can't use a different size/rated tyre/wheel on the same axle.
Some cars have space savers, but these are specially designed and clearly marked, plus are speed restricted

Replace the damaged wheel. Wouldn't trust a repair on a previously damaged wheel

People offer the service but i guess it depends on the wheel, where and how big the crack is

Do you not have a spare underneath the rear of the car?

You dont say what size rubber bands you have on your 22s
If you fit a 19 or 20 if the tyre size is right it may match the 22s tyre. So the electronics wont notice, legalities i have no idea.
But as above should still be rated for the car and treated as a spare.

So pleased u managed to control it and didn’t have an accident

Plus 1 ref the cracked alloy , would throw it away as there’s always the what IF something happens at motorway speeds , particularly as you’ve already had a blowout , just not worth the risk

me personally would get the right sized alloy and tyre , at least then u know 100% the insurance company or police if pulled can’t say anything, , moreover ur safety and other road users being the most paramount , know u would never forgive urself if something happened

Are the 22" currently on the car designed for the RRS i.e rated for a car of that weight?

I think most of us would say the best way to deal with this in the long run is get rid of the bling/drug dealer wheels and go back to standard.

I guess I am just getting old

As the others say, throw the cracked wheel away. a bang hard enough to crack the wheel may have cause other damage that could only be seen with an X Ray. Not worth the risk IMO.
