Hello all.
I am new to this site and was recomended it by a kind man I met whilst on holiday.
I have 2 problems which I hope somebody might be able to help me with.
The first problem is a knocking noise underneath my landrover. At first I thought the exhaust pipe was loose but the knocking only happens when I go over uneven road surfaces. Then another person said it could be my shock absorbers. But a few weeks ago whilst I had my bearings in the cam belt tensioner replaced the mechanic said it was my transfer box.He said it would be about £180 just for the part.Has anybody else ever had this problem? and is it easy to fix without putting it into a garage?

The second problem I have is when changing down gears from 4th to 3rd and 3rd to 2nd,..the car judders before it engages into gear(like the clutch slipping).I have recently had the master cylinder, slave cylinder and clutch assembly replaced at a great cost and its never been right since.I thought the clutch might just be bedding in:confused: but its been over 1000 miles now and the problem is still there.
But the good point about my freelander is that its an excellent Tow car.
Look forward to reading your thoughts on these problems.
Many thanks

Knocking noise. Front or rear or hard to say? :) If rear then I would suspect the rear diff mounting bushes.

My guess with the clutch is that is has been badly or incorrectly fitted.

I would return to the garage and get it sorted........FOC of course :)

Hi Andy.
Thanks for your reply.I have been away for 4 weeks so have only just read it.
The clutch is now sorted...The banging noise was from the rear of the car.You were right. It was the rear Diff mount bushes.
I have just had my MOT and it needed a few minor things done. But the mechanic also gave me a price to replace the Diff mount Bushes and he quoted £180 plus VAT....I just looked on line and the bush set will cost about £40. Is £140 labour a bit steep? or is it a few hours job to replace them?
I was quoted that price from HP Transport in Walisdown(Bournemouth)
Many thanks

Well I've only just seen your reply as I treated myself to a few days away :)

£180 plus the VAT does seem a bit steep to me. I am pretty close to you if you are considering HP Transport and would expect the job to about £100 including the parts.

PM or email me if you wish :)
