my other halfs freelander's front suspension has started knocking when going over bumps. you can feel it under your feet when in the car so i've had a look underneath and by the looks of it it's the rear bushes on the lower wishbones, at least i think it is as there is a gap of about 5mm between the bush and the houseing it sits in.
i assume that it should not be like that, am i correct?
Also being a tight ass i would like to replace them myself, how difficult is it?
any advice would be welcome.

Doesnt sound right but is there excess play at the joint.

You also need to check the ball joint, plus tracking arm ball joint, as well and possibly your drop links on the anti-roll bar

Not an overly diff job to do.

Nout wrong with having a go yourself, thats how most of us started. No point in paying someone to mess it up when you can do that yourself. NO seriously, Mad hat man might be able to upload some tech diagrams.

here is some of the relevant stuff

i've checked the anti roll bar links and it's not them.will have another look at the weekend to make sure it is the wishbone bushes.
cheers for the tech diagrams.

Planning to replace the lower arm but on the RAVE Step 5, what does it mean by

5.
Tighten rear bush housing bolts to 105 Nm (77
lbf.ft).
CAUTION: Nuts and bolts must be tightened
with the weight of the vehicle on the
suspension.

Kinda confuse but how low do you go to get the arm compressed because there is still disc brake? do I need any special tool (LRT-60-008) because mine the ball joint has gone.
