Kinetic ropes? Worth there money?

I have a 14 tone recovery strap, thinking about a kinetic rope as well
Now in my experiences I was using 2 strap to make a longer one, no shackles just looped through, one went snap and that has it,

I've seen 2 kinetic ropes go both with a massive bang and a bug didn't in a defender rear tail gate and a big dint in a disco tailgate,

Also saw a recovery point on a disco snap with a kinetic rope and a shackle and it put a massive hole in the tailgate of a defender only stopped cause it hit therollers for the rear winch (mashed it up good)

From what I've seen there's mre risk with a kinetic rope as it has stored energy,

Most kinetic ropes have a or load of 2 tone and a breaking load of 12 tone

The question is are they worth the money and the risk,

After I had seen the two ropes snap it took my 90 with a winch and a second 90 that had snapped the rope with a winch. both tied on to a disco and a defender and 8.5 tone of winch to pull the stuck disco out.
 
In my view yes, kinetic ropes are worth it, but you have to know how to use them. The snapped kinetics I've seen have been because the lead vehicle has driven away too fast, people seem to think the faster they go the better, which isn't the case.

Get the longest you can, short kinetics aren't really much use.

Don't mistake normal strops for kinetic, get one from a reputable dealer, not off ebay .. unless it's a reputable dealer ebay shop!! :)

I have been using my kinetic for 2 years now and its only pinged once when a poxy patrol had such a rotten recovery point it snapped off under strain, and yes it did **** my disco and yes i have the dint to show for it.

if you get one make sure you wash it out after any muddy use and treat it well, it will return the favour.

out of interest mine is about 40mm O.D and its pulled many a stuck motor out of the mud and even tugged a stuck 16 tonne truck along on some ice, they are a dangerous bit of kit but if you remember that when you are using them and take appropriate precautions they are fantastic at what they do. but then which bit of off road recovery isnt a bit dangerous anyway, winching is, jacking is, general tugging and pulling is too.

They are a great bit of kit, but need to be used correctly, they also require a great deal of respect as when they go wrong, they tend to go really wrong

Not alot of speed needed, you don't need a run up, just enough to 'charge' the rope

Also I would only really use one as a last resort
 
Kinetic ropes are a good bit of kit

I got my rope from here, about 2 years ago and it's still in good shape

Am I right in thinking if a kinetic strap went bang it might not be quite as bad as a rope as it doesn't weigh as much and is less aerodynamic so should loose verlocity quicker?

Only a thought,
 
Possibly in theory, but depends how much energy is stored as to how it will react,

When recovering a longer one is more usefull then short
 
Nice one might be getting me a long kinetic strap, prefer the strap as it folds away neatly and easy to clean, it says on that site above if you won't any advice to give him a call, might give him next week.
 
Kinetic ropes are great pieces of equipment but are specialist. Using them without the proper knowledge or experience can be fatal. A normal piece of rope carries some elasticity and is more than enough for most recovery situations
 
I've got a Kinetic rope, used it since i bought the 90. Seems to be worth every penny to me, just saving up for a winch now, got my eye on the Come up atm

I sort of get where you are coming from, I have been chossey in tge past over who had recovered me, and gave said sirry mate i aint gona use tgat tie diwn point ti recover you i dont care how many times you have done it brfor. I will always try winch my self out or use my tow strap, the only thing been is when I'm stuck I'm really stuck as I have a locker in the rear and a trutrac in the front.
