Yesterday, my (only) key fob (key 1) for my 1999 4.6 HSE P38 packed up. After trying 2-3 different changes of battery, I started searching on the 'net for details of what to do next.

I found lots of useful info, much in this forum.

Everything I read said:
1) Go to the LR dealer and order a new key - (£115 gasp...done)
2) You cannot replace an existing key - so if key 1 and 2 are gone, you'll need to order key 3 or 4.

I had lost key 1, but the dealer said no problem, new key 1 will be here in a week or so.

He's the LR spares guy, so he must know what he's taking about -- right?

You can replace an existing key if its lost. You just cant have two key 1's or key 2's etc etc. So if you loose Key 1 you can order another Key 1 but then you wont be able to use both of them alternately. You will need to order a Key 2 if you want to have two keys you can use alternately.
