Hi All.

Just installed a Kenwood double din into my 2013 defender 90. Purchased the CMOS-230 reverse camera as an extra. I know to connect the 2 amp red wire on the camera to the purple signal wire on the double din but where would the black wire connect to?

I thought I would be able to wire this up to the reverse light but don’t think it is possible.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What is the black wire supposed to do ?
It is a Ground wire according to the instruction booklet. I can’t understand where the signal would come from when i select reverse.

It's nothing to do with the camera. it's the video display unit that needs to determine if reverse is selected...

Connection to a TV with an RCA video input is possible,
but confirm whether the TV you use has a reverse gear
connection function.

Thanks for the image. What cable can I purchase to connect the purple/white wire to the reverse light? Also, which fuse does the red wire connect to?

I get the feeling that this is a bit much for you.
I'd be tempted to find an auto electrician to help.

You can use any colour wire you like to connect to the reverse light 12V feed, avoid the blue fold-over clamp (scotch lock) style connectors these ...

The red wire (to the camera) needs an aux 12v feed.
The aux circuit is the one that becomes live when the ignition key is turned to position 1, the radio (for example) is on this circuit as is the fag lighter, windscreen wipers etc, ie anything that works when the key is turned and stops working when the key is removed.
Fit an in-line fuse so that if the camera does crap out it doesn't let the smoke out the wires ...
