Finished the wiring on my kenlowe today, and took it for a run, when I got back and parked it up the fan came on a couple of minutes later. It was anoying the **** out of me so I turned the stat up a bit, a big bit, to stop it and a few minutes later it came back on again and ran for about 5 minutes.

Makes you think how much heat is stored in the engine and if this is what causes the head gaskets to blow.

Connect the fans electrics to a power supply that is on the ignition side and that will stop this problem due to heat rising from the engine when parked up after a run, also it will stop any problems with the alarm activating, if u have one.
Don't forget to readjust the temperature control back to just above normal running temp of the coolent.

Yep I was going to connect it to the alternator, but thought it might be good idea to see if there were benifits this way first, though it might be good for to remove the excess heat, but I think it's going to be a nuisance.

Hi David, it might seem a nuisance, but with all that stored heat and no fresh air flow, I think I would want it to go on if it felt the need.

Motorbike electric fans work like this, you arrive somewhere, turn off the motor, sit down for a coffee (or something!!) and the fans come on.

Well actually I got that idea from the madhat man, and it makes sense, as you say perhaps all that stored up heat is doing harm. Heat sink he called it.

I think I wil leave it at the minute and see where the best settings are and how long it actually takes to cool at these settings.

Cheers for that.

nah - i is gettin too much praise to fit em all on;)

In fairness - I dint think heatsoak was a prob on disco lumps - usually they are overcooled - tis normally associated with the dreaded Hippoos.:rolleyes:

I wish I had it on me defender. It would mean hot air in the winter rather than warm. Have you sorted out your mud block on the front of tuftee yet?

well - I have pressure washed the rads and water is coming through the fins (not much tho) - but I think it would not go amiss to remove the intercooler and flush it through inside and out.

am at the mo - i dont have a front prop on Tufftee - UJ's are shot:eek:. but yes - i think I am - so it wont do any harm to eliminate that possibility.
of course it could be 4cwt of wheels an tyres in the back and a cwt of mud underneath;).
