ok I have a 95disco v8i and when cold runs fine. but when it warms up it misses, caughs and sometimes dies when taking off, however after you get into secon gear or going nice it seems to run fine. I have noticed the exaust fumes to be a bit strong since this. if anyone could help that would be great...... all sugestions are greatly accepted...........

Sound like it's running rich - the question is why? (!!!) Before spending a fortune on engine management, consider changing the HT leads. These do degrade with time, and the poor spark can lead to rich running. It happened to me a couple of times in the bad old days before I discovered the magic of diesel. Incidentally, don't be tempted to "tidy up" the run of the leads - the apparently messy routing on the V8 is there to prevent interference.

Presumably you don't have a dirty air filter? Check by running it (briefly) without the filter element. A clogged filter has similar effect.

oxygen/lamda sensor on exhaust can cause similar symptoms. My wifes Escort was running like a bag of ****e , changed oxygen sensor[16 quid e-bay] sorted. You wouldn't believe something like that could make so much difference.
