Hi I was considering buying a K&N filter.....but I have been made
aware there are possible issues with MAF failing due to oil contamination
what are peoples findings.........are there issues????

Fitted mine in Feb have done 5k miles since. Running the synergy 2 with Pierburg maf. K&N hasnt caused me any problems.

Thats in my 2005 TD4

Yes, it's well known on many other forums. K&N have supposedly "investigated" & are blaming owners for cleaning them & using too much oil when reoiling them. problem is that many owners had problems with ones which came pre-oiled from the factory. I've done what others recommend & cleaned off the oil & run it dry. It won't be as efficient at filtering I know, but one of the BMW forum guys did this after it ruined two of his MAFs & he had no further trouble for the next 50,000 miles then he sold the car.

Theres hardly any oil in the K&N filters !

mine was fitted for 6 months and the engine was running much better than with the standard filter.

thats with pierburgh maf, and synergy 2.

go for it, well worth the money :D

the key is when you buy it.........dont spray any oil on it.

when it needs cleaning and spraying its a quick shhh shhh and done. tomany peeps soak it in oil. and then it kills the maf.

Hmmm there is no clear answer....best urr on side of caution ...shame really. I have used K&N for many years on other cars with no problem inc a Golf TDi ............... never re oiled my filters justy used them from factory.

I've had a k and n filter for about 3 months with my manufacture maf and i've had no problems what so ever. Had a great result from it too :).
