Hi all,,Have searched and found contradicting opinions...Ive got a 96' DSE and im gonna do the service for the winter bit..Standard air filter is £12 + P+P ... K+N is £39 + P+P......
As a boy racer i remember fitting the K+N as it "would make my Mk3 Escort accelerate 10 times quicker!" (Yeah ok!! youth!!)..
But now im abit more older and wiser,,There must be a realistic advantage? Maybe 1 or 2 MPG? Or a slightly free'er reving engine?
I have read some reports (from well respected Senior members)that an air filter will make NO differance to a Diesel?Anyone got any experience?
Cheers in advance Tel

Well as an old timer boy racer my K&N airfilter fitments have always given me a very small improvement on accelaration and noise!! Cone and panel, but I can say that since putting on my K&N on my 96 dse it has done nothing but..... then again I think my dse has issues that a k&n may not compensate for....?

Hi
1. off course a k and n will make a difference.

why you ask?.

2.the k a nd n allows more air to pass through the filter than a standard one . this then alows your fuel to air mixture to be better, thus giving you a cleaner burn, more power, better sounding engine and at least 2 mpg more.

I fitted one 2 years ago and have never regreted it at all.

another good tip is to add a can of slick 50.( it helps too).:)
good luck

Got a k&n jobbie a week or two back an though there's not a vast increase in power, decrease in fuel consumption, etc, etc, . . . .
i am getting about 1 or 2 mpg more, it sounds better, acceleration is just a little sharper and smoother

plus, and its a biggy:
the filter comes with "K&N’s lifetime replacement"

when a normal filter only lasts a month, or two, it makes sense
(not that i've ever been accused of that)

nearly forgot:

almost no clouds of black smoke when'st booting it
:)

Guys!
I appreciate your feedback,so much....Im getting loadsa clouds when i accelerate hard(well in the rear miroor it looks bad , but been told is minimul from following friends)
Reckon is deffinate worth the few extra quid then...Will sort an order out tonight...
Thanks for the advise!!
Will definate try a slick 50 in with the service. Is it the best make? Also,,what oil grade should i put in? I know its no Bentley, but has gotta be worth more than the £4.99 a gallon Aldi stuff my past cars have lived on!!!
Sorry for the newbee questions...Only hope i have some advise to help yous one day!
Many Thanks in advance Tel

I fitted a K & N to my P38 2.5DSE 3 months ago and had an immediate approx 1 mpg improvement on the sama short journey driving in exactly the same way. I then added the Rimmer Bros digital power upgrade and that really made a major difference in acceleration and power and it didn't use any more fule unless I really floored it.
