All claims like that are crap. Dunno how they get away wiv them. That said, if yer filters aging and grubby you will notice a considerable difference just changing it.

Changed the elderly filter on me V8 & it suddenly went like **** orf a shovel!

Er, cuz they make money?

Their only job is to remove as many particles from the air entering the injun whilst restricting as little air flow as possible. Unless you're running a seriously high performance injun you'd be better off changing a cheap aftermarket filter more often than required rather than giving shedloads to K&N et al.

Jest my opinion, but I wouldn't waste my money!

Any advice on performance, reliability

Claims are that increase in power of 5-10bhp:confused: Surely not

Hi

Running a 300tdi egr removed, straight thru exhaust, tunit chip giving around 165 bhp now, recent service oils filters etc tried out a K & N filter, 45 quid compared to 4 quid odd for a standard one..

My advice is don't waste ur F*****g money spend it on regular quality services with decent oils etc, companies like K & N need to cut their prices as as far as i could see the quality was sh1te and no apparent power increase was seen!

Forget it!!

Well - some of these companies i.e "TD5 alive" etc.. are selling all sorts of upgrades - starting with air filters, turbo boosters, sports intercoolers, ECU remaps - rather disconcerting to think of the amount of money charged

Well - we all know about turbo lag, etc... any ideas how to improve this?

I'm not saying all performance upgrades are pointless, just you aren't going to get a 5/10BHP improvement with an expensive air filter............unless you existing one is really clogged up with crud!

Larger intercoolers are good apparently as are remaps. Depends what you want to spend. ;)

I've found regular changes of paper filters @ £3.50 a go to be as good as anything.

Diesels need to be able to breath, so good filters on the way in and little or no restrictions on the way out ie no catts etc. It cost me £21.50+vat to de-catt mine - bargain !!

We have just changed the panel filter on th 300 and had a good differance power and responce much improved , but didnt go down the K&N route as its not worth it £36 with a reroute for the air intake and messing around, it's differant on a sports car like the cossie because you need as much air intake as possible to cool her down and the Kn N works wonders on that and sounds good too, my advice cheap as chips £4.25 panel filter every year.

I have the Tunit chip on mine, its the later 300tdi and this makes a hell of a difference, the guys that fitted it at Westcoasst in southport can reprogramme it for any anythting you like, BHP, Torque, better fuel economy etc I went whith the higher torque option and it really helps reduce lag and the pull is incredible, and little reduction in MPG event though thats not brilliant ne way.

A bit expensive at £395 but worth it . Other than that go with good filters and oil and keep the engine running as clean as.........

Reroute, what re-route?? It just drops straight in existing airbox.

See link:K and N Filter - 300TDI - Discovery

Reroute ie not just putting a lookalikee panel K&N in but a cone filter rthis then needs an Air supply better than the one in the side under the arch ie coming from the front grill area and about 1-2 inches from the filter you would probably have to also bodge up some kind off bracket for the cone. Still want to do it just cant see any advantage unless somones already done it and they get 40 mpg????? at 70mph.
Took of the intercooler today and cleaned her out thouroughly really minging but now pulls much better all the hoses replaced as one looked a bit melted. i'd recommend that quite easy.

Thanks

I'm looking at a stage 1 re map gives about 40hp more
Does anyone know if this will damage engine i.e headgasket/turbo/overheating

What happens to fuel economy?
I'n trying to get more torque between 1200 and 2200 rpm - not bothered about revving up!!

Cheers Guy

Twisted performance uprated intercooler will give you more grunt, a few turns on your wastegate to increase pressure will help and about a quarter turn on your fuel regulator cone to increase the mixture. Basic mods that don't cost a fortune and give loads more bottom end. Assuming it's a 200 or 300 TDi...
