Hi all, just purchased a LR Discovery from a sheep farm in Wales. Needless to say it was a bargain price! Its just failed its MoT on 10 things, 7 of these are corrosion related and I am happy with welding so shouldn't be a big issue, although its a couple of weeks work in between my (part time) job and college (I'm old though). The others are a track rod end, prop doughnut and brakes poor, although I think this will be resolved when I replace the 2 rear brake pipes which were corroded and bleed the brakes etc.

Its a 300TDI (I think? Its 1996 model and TA chassis number) 3 door base model, a little bit tatty but will do me at the price.

I have done a little searching around and found Paddock Spares, and also John Craddock. Are there any other decent online ordering spares firms I should also try?

Wish me luck!

Thanks, never thought of difflock shop, I used to have a Pajero and they never had anything for it. But they have loads of LR stuff.

I have cracked on with the work required to get its MoT:

Track rod end didn't even need the BJ splitter tool, it almost fell off once the nut was undone. Its thread to the track rod is seized though (fun ahead)

I think I'll be able to 'patch' the sills and end rather than needing to spend £50+ on each side for a new whole sill.

After 7 weeks part time working on it, had the MoT test again today and it passed with no problems at all, and positive comments from the MoT tester about the quality of the work (he thought I'd given it to a garage to do the stuff). There's a couple of little jobs to complete but its more/less ready for use!

A lot of 4x4 part's stockist's use ebay...

Cheap Tyres Discount Tyres & Japanese Import Car Parts Spares Tuning Performance Servicing Accessories :: - cheap tyres

L. R. Series - specialists in land rover, land rover series and range rover - gearbox, axle, transmission parts, spares and major units

4x4 Store

Paddock's have always given me good service, be wary of the cheaper BritPart products as they don't last too long if used hard.

Sorry for the thread hijack, but a massive thanks for the links and recommendations mate! :)

Excellent news:)

No worries;)

The first weekend off road revealed a few issues, the main one being the compromise in approach angle. So I trimmed off the bumper and neatened the remaining corners to help out here. The other was the tyres, I knew it needed decent tyres anyway so I've bitten the bullet and bought 5x new ones as an upgrade.

The tyres are 265/75R16. I know its probably been documented a million times, but here are the little mods (which took half an hour) to accommodate their larger size.

Slight trim to rear arch (Camel Trophy cut)

Here's where it rubs at the front. An adjustment to the steering stops is required:

The guide suggests the spare wheel won't fit (needs spacing) but mine was fine, both on clearance from the door and rear bumper, where there's approx 10mm gap:

The next jobs on the list are to sort out the towbar, since it hangs down and ploughs the land a little; finish T-cutting the paintwork and to touch up the corroded edges of the wings and minor scratches (need to find a supplier who will do a touch up pen, don't want to get involved in spraying metallics!)
