judder through steering wheel

Steering damper (as said above) but also check the ball joints and the swivel preload. Had that issue with a Range Rover Classic and found out it had been soldiering on with all of the above messed up...changed the handling no end when all was fixed/adjusted.

Pre-Load/Wheel bearings

Wheel bearings caused the problem on mine
 
Don't forget the propshaft bearings. You can get all kinds of interesting vibration as they get loose. I can tell when my front needs doing because the steering wheel (and other things) start vibrating at 50 mph.
