Freelander 1 Joying Android head unit to FL1 steering wheel controls?

Hi
I bought a Joying Android head unit a couple of years ago.
I can find no indications of what exact model it is in the menus, it just says Android 10.
There are two unused wires coming out of the back labelled "key1" and "key2" and my guess is that these are what need connecting to the Freelander 1 steering wheel buttons.
Anyone done this before and know how to wire it?

by the way, I bought a double DIN cage and a Freelander 1 adapter, but this didn't work well.
It resulted in the headunit sticking out of the dash by about 14mm too much.
What did work was drawing around the adapter onto a piece of scrap washing machine and cutting it out with an anglegrinder:-

Use either 1 or 2, from memory it's the resistance to earth. May need to earth one in the loom. I can check tonite.
Then there is a menu to learn what function is what. Can use long press for different functionality.

That would be useful as my friend is also in the same position with his unit, i can't remember make at the moment.

The 2 above pics, top one shows which 2 wires cut from the steering wheel. Meter between them and the resistance will change with each steering wheel button.
The second shows one of the above wires to earth and the other to the input on the stereo.
Somewhere in the stereo menu you assign each function to a steering wheel key press.

What you said worked.
Just to be clear:-
The two wires that you cut come from the steering wheel controls to the back of the factory head unit plug.
You earth one of the wires to chassis.
You connect the other wire to the "key 1" wire on the Joying head unit.
The "key 2" wire on the Joying head unit just leave it alone, not connected to anything.

That's put better than my explanation! Spot on. The other wire, key2, to the head unit could give extra functions by doing the same. Not sure where the settings are on the head unit but I imagine you can work it out!

There are only four functions on the steering wheel (vol+, vol-, back, next), and just using the key 1 wire they all work. I don't think that there's any more functionality to be gained.

I considered adding push buttons may be by the window switches on the centre console for other functions, but volume is all I use really

Ah I suppose key 1 and key 2 are completely different inputs so you can connect them to two different resistor networks. I don't know why I didn't think of that.

Yes, could be useful although the head unit is close, unless you have the need to control it from the back seat.
