In 2023 I had a main service (30k) carried out on my Discovery sport which was completed by a JLR dealer. The service invoice shows amongst other things that the Air filter and the fuel filter (prime) was changed as part of the service.

Today I had my vehicle service by a non JLR dealer whom I trust 100%. The garage previously worked for four of the main dealers over the 25 years he's been in the industry. Any way, I asked the garage to use only JLR parts which he was happy to do.

Got the call to say the car service was complete so off I went to collect the car. The person who carried out the service just happened to mention that the fuel filter and the air filter appeared to be the manufactures original parts and I said this was not possible. The engineer fetched the parts in question and explained that the markings on both parts indicated they were the original parts. He went on to say that the fuel filter placed in the car during manufacture has a foam pad glued onto the top to had some kind of cushion. He said the JLR replacement parts do not have that on and hence its the original fuel filter. He then went on to show me the text markings on the side of the air filter and said these also indicate its the original filter. JLR replacement filters don't have the same markings and tend to be manufactured by the likes of Bosh.

So my concern here is that I've been charged for parts that never made there way into my vehicle and that the service JLR did was not to the required spec.

Of course I've gone back to JLR and asked them to comment and I await there response. I just wanted to know what others would conclude from the above facts.

Many thanks

Why??????

i.e. why not go to the man you trust but instead go to the main stealers who expect their customers to have loadsamoney and no sense?

If you are really bothered, get the man you trust to write a report stating what he found.
This together with the invoice from the LR main dealer garage will ensure you win your case when you take them to court via the

That's what I would do, it's easy to use, never lost a case yet! (Not always got the money back though, that's another thing but from JLR you'd get it.)

You can claim for the cost of the parts you paid for but were not fitted and also the labour for not fitting them. Did your man check all the parts that were supposed to be fitted? You could also get the oil tested to see how old it is etc, i.e. did they even bother to change that?

It is faintly possible that they simply forgot to do it. but they didn't forget to bill you!!

Once I get the required confirmation I can make a claim under the consumer credit act section 75 because i paid by credit card. At this stage, i'm merely trying to get more info to validate what the new garage is saying.
