Hi
First post, I am seeking some advice and guidance and trust you may be able to assist. My wife has a 2023 Evoque S. It was purchased from new. In September of last year she was driving, when the car, in her words, made a loud bang and stopped dead in the middle of the road. The force threw her forward and locked up the seatbelt and the dash indicated she had been in a collision. The road was clear and fortunately she had just turned out of a junction as was only doing circa 25mph. Without going into chapter and verse, after being recovered the car was off the road for nine weeks in a dealership being repaired. I was told the issue was a faulty seat belt module. We are both senior citizens and my wife found the incident so traumatic she has refused to drive the car again for fear it will reoccur. It really has caused a lot of upset and inconvenience.
I initially reached out to JLR customer services who had no interest, and said my contract was with the dealership and nothing to do with them. The dealership proved extremely difficult and I have pretty much been trying since last year to get any sort of meaningful response. I have been pushed from the dealer principle to the sales manager and finally yesterday by a salesman. They offered lots of platitudes and sympathy and assurances they would do the right thing. Their offer of settlement was to buy the car back at less than a price quoted on a car buying website.
Customer services, the dealership I purchased the car from and the dealership who did the repair all assured me this was a unique one off and none of them had ever seen this seat belt module failure before. Now call me a sceptic but I understand circa 100,000 evoques are produced every year. Making the assumption that there is some commonality with this part in other JLR models so the number must run to far in excess of that. And my wife has the only car where one has failed.
In conclusion, I never over egg things but had this occurred at speed my wife could easily have lost control of the vehicle and have been seriously injured or even killed. My question to the forum is, has anyone had a similar experience and can anyone offer advice where I could go next in an attempt to find some redress.
