hi everyone
Last satarday i bought anouther series 3 (1975) petrol, i drove it home with no problems, it then was left till sunday evening when we left to catch the ferry back to france. we broke down about 2 miles from the ferry typical!! when it broke down it was if the engine had been turned off so i droped a gear still nothing, we got towed to the boat and have got it back home but i still can'nt get it to start it dosent even try like spluter or anything theres a spark petrol in the cylinders evreything but it just wont fire, ive changed the plugs ht leads coil checked the gap on points everything and ive just about had enough. im sure its something simple but i cant think what.
thanks Dan
p.s i tryed to move the distributer by hand to se if it had worked it self round and seting the timming wrong.
any ideas??????

take the dizzy cap off, have the ignition on, and use a small screwdriver ( insulated of course) and place it between the points, whilst doing this try to see how strong the spark is, it should be quite a good spark, at the same time look at the points where they are mounted in the dizzy if there is any spark any where other than the tip of the points your condensor is up the creek. not sure on landys but also check the carbon button inside the center of the dizzy cap, its some thing simple and its probably looking at you,

OK .... so you turned the distributor huh? Like how far?

Did you set the engine to TDC first and then to the correct timing mark, and then set the points to break exactly there?

You didn't just turn the distributor ... willy nilly ... like to see what happens ... tell us you didn't do that .... surely not ...

FIRST .... set the static ignition timing exactly as the book says.

SECOND .... make sure you are getting a spark every time the points flick OPEN.

You will have some chance that it runs after you do that.

thanks for evreybodys segestions but its now sorted,
If theres a spark and petrol surely it should start? not if theres no air, as the butterfly was stuck totaly shut lol something so simple but not one i thought of first.
Thanks Dan

Please accept my apologies. That happened to me last week, but never having heard of it before I decided it was a chance in a million and not worth mentioning!
