Can anyone help...I am thinking of buying a SIII SWB **, with diesel engine...want to change the diesel for petrol..how difficult is this (wiring etc)
also have a cahace of getting a replacement chassis from a series IIa will it fit mine, what are the implications of the chassis having no V5 and no number stamped on (DVLA)...yes I know but could be a cheap EBAY buy

I can't believe you just said that Yella!! (well, yeah, I've got a set of stamps too - but, they have never been used - honest!)

I have a good 2.25 S3 Petrol engine about to come out for a swap to diesel if it's of interest?

I dont think you are going to hit any wiring problems at all. Just insulate and loose the glowplug leads (better still disconnect it at the ignition switch. Fit a coil to the body, pick up powr for it from the ignition switch. No change to alternator.

You will need a longer heavy-duty cable for the starter, a new solenoid and a bit of cable extending round the engine to reach the starter-motor for the power pick-up.

I have both types sitting outside of my front door - just shout if you need anything.

Totally agree with Yella D - why take out a good diesel and replace with a thirsty petrol? You are talking 10 miles per gallon difference (I run both) If you really need a bit more power, how about an LDV Sherpa 2.5 diesel - it goes straight in, I think?

Just re-read your question, sorry, should have got brain engaged before putting mouth into gear.

"Thinking of buying" - FORGET IT!!!!!!!

Go and find one which is already what you desire. It will save you loads of drinking vouchers in the long run, and you will have more than enough work to do just making all the nice little bits even better. I've been down this road before (to my cost) and there is no substitute for waiting for the right one to come up and getting on the road straight away.

Someone else will burn serious dosh building exactly what you want and you can take advantage of their efforts. Landrovers have one thing in common with busses, there will be another along in a few minutes.

Good luck hunting, and be very, very fussy.

Yes yella, that's my excuse as well! On a slightly more serious note, The last three Landies I have helped people find (ebay) have all been fiddled to get the Tax free status. No difference here in Ireland, but, there is an awful lot of it going on in the UK and buyers should be aware, or at least have their eyes open.

I have only once seen a real chassis number on a S3. It was on the driver's side of the chassis, right up by the front, front spring hanger. I had to weld over it!

Anyone know of any other places for one.

I drove up though N Wales last weekend - snow and all. Good roads, but, hard work. Never seen so many Landies in my life.

Helped Brother-in-law by flying over on a one-euro special to Heathrow and sharing driving and loading a VW LT28 with building materials (plus a smattering of LR spares) back to Ireland Via Holyhead. Called at a fella's house near Porthmadoc (sorry about spelling) to pick up spares for my Riley.

Must have been vastly over-loaded, slipping all over the place on the hills in the snow - tyres pumped up to 60psi to make them look a bit normal. Went through Welshpool and the national park. All in the dark and the snow - saw nothing! Bloody hard drive though.

I bought a Series 3 last year, in North Wales, on ebay for 200 quid. Nice fella but I wish he had said in his listing that he had been using it to pull a speedboat in and out of the sea!

Could have walked, but, you bid-you buy. Would have been interesting to weigh the thing. All time record for a low reading!

What's up with your engine? Are you getting on with it or waiting for inspirtation?

Just cuious ......what is the reason for wanting to ditch the diesel? I own a petrol 2A myself but would rather a diesel.

Ralph

Some of the landies in North Wales live at my fathers palce - although he only has one which goes. Picked up a nice 2A recently - which someone built on chassis I bought 20 years ago and sold 10 years ago.
