Finally had a long weekend spare so boldly disconected the dreadful
Aisan from the first 413 in the queue, pulled off all the stupid tubes
and connectors and shorted the manifold hot water feed . . . cleaned
off the outside of the Pony carb (original engine capacity unknown but
thought to be a 1600)from my local scrappie and hoped it wasn't
clogged inside . . . in the absence of pukkah gasket put a bead of
blue Hylomar on and bolted down gently.

Then a few minutes fabricating the fuel feed, in line filter and Y
piece to the drain back (thanks for your advice Geoff, up to three
pints now) and connected the solenoid fuel shut off to a secret
switch.

Thought 'bo**#x' it'll take a couple of days to find all the faults
and turned the key. Started first time, tickover fast but purred.
Cor! Went for a drive, tickover very fast once warmed, stopped and
turned the only screw found, tickover settled.

Performance steadier at low revs, seemed more stable less likelyhood
of a stall. Pulled well to mid range, mid range a very little
flatter, top end steady accelleration, same cruising but less instant
'pump jet' accelleration.

Went for one hundred and twenty mile round trip. Cruising fine,
economy much better, high thirties at steady 55 to 60.

Called at friendly MoT station, emmissions fine, better than Aisan.

Summary, Pony carb is a great improvement, thanks to all who sent or
posted advice on fitting!
