I have a 2009 Freelander HSE 2.2 Deisel. I have been using it for the past 2 days with no problems. This morning, I was sitting in the car with the engine running and just entering an address into the Satvav. I just got ready to drive away and the engine just stopped with the message "reduced engine performance" without me touching anything. I tried starting it a few times but it just turned over and wouldn't start.

I had to move to my other car and leave the Freelander for the day. When I came back from work in the evening, it started as normal. I then turned off the engine and tried restarting again. This time it wont even turn over and there is a yellow triangle flashing with a circle in the middle with an arrow on the circle with an exclamation mark. The key fob would not eject. After pressing the keyfob in a few times it finally ejected. I dont want to put the keyfob in again in case I have to sit there for ages again, waiting for it to eject.

What is going on?

Thanks!

Check that the battery is fully charged first, and then after that maybe fuel, when was the fuel filter last changed, when you say would not turn over at all, it's not even cranking ? if so that could be the starter, but check battery 1st

Thanks all for the replies. I fitted a new battery recently, so I went for purchasing a crank sensor and a fuel filter because it has never been changed for years. The parts arrived today so I will be fitting them this weekend unless it is raining.

I will post back an update.

Cheers!
