Hi Folks,
During this past week with the cold winter nights we have been having, i have noticed that when i do a shortish run in my freelander TD4 and then arrive and park up and ignition off i can still hear the (what i presuming is the burner heater) still whizzing around with the exhause fumes coming out the pipe up to several mins after ignition is off sometimes.Gradually as each minute passes it quietens down untill i guess it eventually stops.
Is this normal lads, any thoughts ???

Hi,

Yes, it is normal and as Labiarat said it's the fuel burning heater (FBH), and you are lucky you park your car in the street, with me the same happens but I park it in the garage and believe me, while it still runs and when it stops and pours a last bit of smoke out it doesn't smell but it simply stinks and puts the whole garage full of bleuish smoke. But that's only when very cold. But besides that the heating as well as the A/C is louzy imo. (But after almost five years i learned to live with it and I still adore the car as such, it's simply a dream to drive and the worse the weather the better and the more pleasant it becomes, when other drivers get white knockels of being cramped around the steeringwheel the Hippo drives fantasticly). That compensates largely the negative points it has.
