Is my steering damper shot?

I adjusted the free play in the steering box last week, and have just taken the defender out for a run, it feels a bit vague in a straight line at 40-50 mph, but feels more settled going around a corner. Could my steering damper be nacked or is it more likely to be track rod ends/bushes?

probably adjusted the box too far it is a bit of trial and error
