Hi to all
I have just joined this forum. I also need advice on a very irritating problem.

I have recently bought a 1994 300tdi Discovery. It is LHD and I have been advised by the previous owner that this car was imported to the UK from Saudi.

The speedo reads in km's/hr. The problem I have is, that at approx 118km's/hr or I susspect 70mph, or over, I get a continuous repeating bleep untill I drop below this speed. Can any one help in disconnecting this very irritating alarm.

Hi

You have a speed limiter fitted, all be it a noise operated one. Does anything happen if you keep going faster? Do you have a light which accompanies this alarm?

You can also get your Speedo changed to MPH.

To disable it, provided it's not engine or gearbox linked should'nt be that hard, being Saudi spec, you will need a Saudi Spec wiring Diagram (As Saudi Spec had a few other options similar to US/NAS Spec) My guess is its Speedo linked, whether at the gearbox end or instrument panel. There may be two wires connected to a buzzer unit in the dash, one earth one live, trace these wires till you locate it's controller. At worst it will be ECU linked to the fuel system which will need electronic diagnostics.

Hope this may help

Hi Charlotte

Thanks for a quick reply.

1) When going faster the stupid alarm just keeps on "pinging" at the same rate untill I drop below 70mph.

2) No light, just an irritating pinging.

3) Today I have checked the speedo hook up & it appears to be an electronic speed sensor (no mechanical speedo cable)

4) No idea on how to get a correct wiring diagram. Will look at the problem later.

I will check what else bleeps on this speaker. I think that the only other noise is another ping to remind me to put the seat belt on. If that is the only other function, then I will be happy to do without and I should be able to disconnect the speaker or "adjust it" with a hammer.

Hi

If you have found the speaker either disconnect it (If you have an alarm it may operate on the same speaker) There will be a pair of connectors there somewhere on the live and earth circuit.

At a guess it may be linked to the imobiliser if you have one and or the alarm. I don't think it will be linked to the gearbox if it continues at higher speeds (If it were gearbox linked it would slow you up)

If you find it is linked to something else bypass the speaker that should continue the other circuits.

The hammer sounds a great idea . One word of warning the MoT man may get tense if you disconnect the seat belt warning.

Hope this is some help

Hi this may be a bit late, but I have only just joined. However, The speedo alarm as fitted to Sauddi spec motors is silenced by diconnecting a wire. The wire is in the loom that comes out of the back of the Fuse box under the dash. The wire you need is a yellow wire that has an in line spade connector in the line. Incidentally the local dealer(thief) charges over GBP 20 to fix this little noise! rgds Stuart
