has anyone changed an ird output pinion seal?

To the rear diff you mean? It's possible to do, but not very common, unless the bearings are shot. Are you sure the bearings aren't damaged, as leaks normally follow bearing failure.
Have you checked the normal FL1 stuff like VCU and odd tyres. Those are the first things to check, if oil leaks appear from rotating assemblies. ;)

its the pinion seal on the ird at the front end of the propshaft ( the diffs ok )

It's not a difficult task to change the seal, but you need to make sure you retain the bearing pre-load, so it's best to mark the nut and shaft so you can return the nut to the same position, making sure you count the number of turns needed to remove the nut. On re-assembly, simply count the turns back on, pulling the nut back up to the mark.

However before you do that, I'd check the condition of the IRD bearings by draining the oil and checking for metallic particles in the oil. Like I said, pinion seal leakage is normally due to some other issue with the IRD, like overloading from odd tyres being fitted.
