Hi All,
I have just taken the plunge into the world of Land Rovers. I have always been into 4x4's due to doing a lot in the country etc , flying birds of prey, ferrets etc. My previous vehicles have usually been mitsubishi's, shogun, L200 etc.
I have been looking at old Land Rovers for ages and after having a year out with a normal car I decided to go for it with a 1978 Series III SWB with 2 1/4 petrol engine.
I gave the right money for it so well happy with it.
12 Months MOT
Engine stripped and rebuilt 2000 miles ago
electronic ignition
New white Wheels
virtually new Rag top
Fairey overdrive.
It was a bit of an eye opener for the first couple of days driving it but now I am used to it its Ace. It will be used as my day to day vehicle as I am a self employed plumber and work within my area. I don't really do any motorway miles and if I do end up doing any I will just take an alternative route and set off earlier haha.
I do have a wife and kids but they love it so thats a bonus, My Mrs just wants me to do a few modifictions.
Anyway the chassis is in decent nick with the normal weld spots etc, it has LWB front brakes so stops well.
Bulkhead needs a bit of attention as its has been welded but not grinded down very well and look a bit crap, a bit of TLC and will look good
I am going to do a full repaint all over and ordered most of the gear from online LR suppliers. Up to now I have removed both front door tops sanded them down and removed the corroded window kit, primed, resprayed them in Matt black and fitted new glazing kit and they look well.
Carpeted the entire back out and fitted new bench seat with new seatbelt.
removed the front grill, bumper and headlight trims and sanded and painted matt black.
Hopefully over the next week while I don't have much work on and while the weather is dry I will get the whole body sanded down and repainted in the original green apart from the bonnet which is going to black to match the trims.
Bit of tidying up in the cab also required such as recovering dash etc.
The Mrs just wants me to swap the Soft top with a hard top so I am looking to do a straight swap if anyone out there is interested. I will swap the top and all of the sticks and kit including the drop down door for a hard top with windows and the rear door. The door can be any colour as it is being repainted but the top preferably white with green sides or all white.
I will try to get some pics up later.
p.s ordering a LPg kit with at some point with the plan to mount the 40l tank under passenger seat to save space in the rear.
Cheers
Damien
