Intermittent missing and engine light

2006 Freelander - Been driving with no issues at all. Starting fine, running fine until on Motorway and at 70 it hiccuped and then started to lose power. Breakdown came started engine ran sweet as a nut no fault codes. Turned engine off then restarted and ran like a bag is sh*t still no code. Got it home tried turning over again wouldn’t start for 2 days although battery was a bit crap started again today and ran sweet as a nut run around up and down road no problem- took it back on motorway and it did the same again - drove it home now idling fine occasional hiccup - any ideas please? Breakdown guy thought maybe injector gone as could smell I burnt diesel

Probably worth getting a car diagnostic tool that is capable of reading the manufacturer codes, many can only read the OBD basic codes that are only emission related. I use the thinkdiag from thinkdiag.co.uk myself as it is near OE level, it is great and can read all the factory fault codes without any issues.
