Hello - before I start, please accept my apologies if this has already been posted on the forum - I tried to find a post matching the issue but am a complete newcomer to the defender world so have limited knowledge of the terminology.
ive just bought a 2009 110 TDI 2.4 - there is an intermittent issue which I would really appreciate any advice on.
The best way to describe it is a loss of acceleration power which happens on an intermittent basis. The engine feels like it’s being choked by something. When it happens, the accelerator is not able to increase revs above around 2000 RPM (even when pressed fully down) which even then it reaches very slowly, and as a result there is virtually no power in the gears. Note that this is the case even if I take it out of gear and just press the accelerator down, so I don’t think it’s a clutch issue. Sometimes it happens when I’m actually in gear, and I noticed at least once this was accompanied by a clunk, though I haven’t always noticed this.
Sometimes the issue can be resolved by switching off the ignition but it often returns quickly after.
unfortunately I’m not an expert on defender engines and as such I’ve really got no idea where to start here. I would really appreciate any guidance anyone can give me!
