When it's running, the A/C is as good as can be expected for a P38. The problem I've experienced for some time is that it seems to stop working about 1 mile after I starts diving, then comes back on after 2 - 3 minutes, then it keeps working. On long runs it may stop occasionally but, again, after 2 - 3 minutes the cool air starts flowing again. It's always the same, every morning going to work and evening coming home.

Any ideas anyone??

Hi,
What does your external temperature reading do when this happens? Does it stay in sensible range, or does it drop to arctic levels or disappear altogether?
I have something of the sort going on and I've been told it's a firmware issue in the HEVAC control unit, which apparently can only be fixed through replacement of the unit.

External temperature stays steady. This is the second HEVAC I've had, and the same thing happened on the original one too. I thought it may be the temperature flaps, but as one is jammed that discounts that theory.

Having a jammed temp flap is not going to help the matter.

I totally agree. But removing the dash is not on my list of favourite things to do at the moment. But it's stuck on 'cold' so my point is that it's not the temp flaps moving around on their own. It doesn't go hot, just feels like the A/C goes off.

Is the clutch on the pump kicking in and out as it should?
It should run for a bit till theres enough pressure and then kicks off, it'll then re-engage when the pressure has dropped a bit.
