I'v heard of people doing this before, but will it make any difference at all if i fit an intercooler to my 2.5TD? and if anybody has done it themselfs, which is the best intercooler to use (maybe a 200tdi one)

The reason is that Lancasters  are refusing to allow me to fit a 200tdi engine and i have paid up for the next 9 months already!

Do work. Cancel policy (and get refund). Get insured somewhere else?? Or wait 9 months then do conversion etc etc :)

An intercooler will help a bit but the TDs main problem is lack of oil sprayers under the piston crown. The TD is really an n/a engine with a turbo grafted on.

Thanks Andy - My plan was to get hold of a 200tdi intercooler and then use it when i do the conversion later (when its warmer outside :) ) - was mainly wondering if it was worth hosing it into the old engine in the meantime.....

I'll how it goes

It is always worth remembering this about intercoolers:

1. the ONLY good they do in normal running is to make the engine a tiny bit more efficient, so little you would be unable to measure it.

2. the ONLY time an intercooler MIGHT help is when you are applying FULL THROTTLE, when you want MAXIMUM power, compared with part throttle where your right foot adjusts position to set the power you need when just driving along.

I hope y'all can see that.

I have my foot to the floor most of the time anyway - usualy trying to get up a hill without comming to a complete standstill :D:D:D:D:D:D

Think i'm going to get the intercooler anyway and if i can be ar*ed to go out in this cold and fit it i'll let you all know if it either causes the enigne to self distruct, or does anything at all......................

Maybe the additional weight of the intercooler will just slow me down even more!

In this cold weather, with your right clog on the floor, I think you might just notice a difference.

Fit it and be damned!

Remember, there is no reason why you don't slacken off the six(?) bolts holding on the turbo volute casing (the inlet end casing ) so you can rotate it to point in a more useful direction. Good trick to know.
