In the ever so ongoing list of maintenance required for the old boy, the current Intercooler hose has gotten quite maliable and near the intercooler, quite oily.

The fact I can quite easily squeeze the hose doesn’t bode well for when it’s under any boost pressure, I’m assuming it’ll be expanding slightly robbing me of precious ponies.

On the back of this I’m a bit concerned about the hose attached to the intercooler being oily. I know there’ll always be some in there as it naturally will seep a bit past the seals of the turbo. What’s confusing me though is the hose from the turbo to the first metal elbow before the intercooler is bone dry. Could it just be settling at the intercooler and pooling there? When I did the glow plugs I checked the intake manifold and no large deposits of oil in there.

Finally, Intercooler hose. I can pay £140 on fleabay for some silicone, £100+ for some LR stuff, OR I can spend maybe about £40 on some Britpart stuff - I’ve had no issues with the Britpart items I already own anyway. What’s it worth going for?

The intercooler/turbo hoses are quite soft and yes the oil does collect in the intercooler. Personally I would be happy with Britpart for hoses.

Thank you, saved me a few £££. What would you suggest cleaning the intercooler out with? I’ve got a Jerry can of diesel left over from when I filled the fuel filter on the last service if that would work?

I use Acetone but make sure it's all out and thoroughly dry before refitting or the engine will rev it's nuts off. Acetone works better for cleaning and evaporates quicker.
