Hi I am 16 nearly 17 have just got my 1952 series 1 80" through its mot after 13 years of it being off the road! It now has a 2.25 diesel 5mb! (Dont take the **** we have had 60 and a bit out of it!!) Just wondered if anyone had any idears who i should insure through? because most companys wont touch me n the landy with a 10 foot pole!
Anyhelp would be good!
Oh am after a fairy overdrive (who isnt) if anyone has one for sale!

So you will be a new driver of 17 wanting insurance for it then, I would just get on confused.com and get them to quote, norwich union are happy with young drivers in landrovers. People like Adrian Flux would be ideal because they understand landy owners, however I don't think they will insure you until your 21.

Your best bet is to just phone up all the mainstream companys, go on all the websites, make sure your only using it for a few thousand miles a year, not for buisness, take the maximum excess you think you could afford, you keep it in a garage right? then drive really carefully and build up your NCB.
 
at 18 i wanted insurance for my defender. it was 1100 with elephant after a year of driving as named driver on a different car. my mate looked up get a disco at arounf the same time and it was about a grand more! i found conffused wasnt that great, they give u quote from someone but if u go to website then u get a different quote. insurance supermarket is like confused. gives u a general idea but not great. i heard adrian flux are good. if u get other family members on direct line it will be cheaper. the more things y insure with them the cheaper it will be. so insure ur dog and stuff! ur occupation has a big difference on price. student is one of the lowest as they assume ur at school or away at uni rather than driving.
 
im with footman james. i am 24 but my 90 was my 1st car and i aint got any no claims bonus :( adrian flux said no because i hadnt insured a car previously, bstards.

you will be able to get classic car insurance with your series, but you will not be able to gain any no claims bonus.

my 1984 LR 90 cost me £300/yr 3rd party with full uk and euro breakdown recovery... not bad for my 1st motor! ;)

as disco says, do lots and lots of phoning and push for better prices. most companies will not have a series 1 as an option on their damn VDU! so push push push ;)
 
Well I'm just about to turn 19 in April, first thing I suggest is don't just look at these compare sites like confused.com then don't often return the best deals.

You might be amazed but as of February I am now insured on a 2.5TD long wheel base Shogun for £380 as a named driver (in Dad's name with Mum on it as well).

The best tips I can give you are:

Keep the value of the vehicle down low (when we contemplated getting rid of the Shogun it was valued at £1000 and this kept the premiums down).

Try and for the first year or so, at least, get it put on someone's insurance who can utilise a no-claims bonus.

What may also have knocked the premium down is that Norwich Union (who it's insured with at the moment) asked if you owned another car, technically I did because the my Series III although SORNED at the moment is registered in my name.

Just hunt around a lot if you don't get tired fingers from typing in all the information then you haven't searched hard enough :D
 
thats well cheap! home address for me is north west london so more chance of some one trying to break into it or wotever. but now living in swansea at the mo, dont think it will be cheaper tho! mine only came down by 100quid or so when i renewed my policy for 2nd year.
hopfully mine will come right down over next couple of years
 
i was insured as named driver for first year of driving which is cheaper but means ur not building up ur own no claims. when they ask u all the questions just answer to make it seem like that u'll hardly be driving it. so put ur mum n dad on it if they got long no claims, if ur a student get that on there, only use it for social driving. dont lie but just do wotever u can legally to make it seem like u wont be driving it often cos ur either studying or or mums driving it etc.

Well I'm 45 minutes west of you in Whitland (other side of Carmarthen) but we live on a farm down a dead-end lane so that might have something to do with it. Also Mum & Dad have 30+ years of no-claims (not all count unfortunately) so that might help.
 
so norwich union with my extremly sensible (lwb diesel man) dad as named driver for first year and limited milage would be the way to go then? dont want to have to sorn my landy and have a hatch back after all this work for the first year!!

nah, i'm only messing. is this swap on ur disco? well when ur up n running we shud get some lanes done round here, not many from down this way on here me thinks....

Not necessarily Norwich Union, but that's the best quote that came up for the Shogun with me on the policy. If possible you want the policy in your father's name and you as a named driver.

Nah, don't have a disco although I know of a good one going for about a grand. Mines a SIII, love to do some lanes, in fact hoping to do Sarn Helen when I go up that way later in the year supervising a Duke of Edinburgh expedition although that'd probably be in the Shogun.
 
give us a shout if your dong sarn helen or the gap road... my folks live in swansea and i know both those routes well. im off to strata florida in 2 weeks time with the north somerset LRC. ;) should be interesting.

Not sure if I'd be doing it, depends on which group I get lumbered with supervising. Off topic, I take it it is still open to vehicles?
 
I'm not sure what you lot would call reasonable but when i looked at a little £750 1.2 fiesta (am nearly 17 so looking) it was £2100 ....series 3 diesel £1500:D:D so not exactly cheap but cheapER hence my s3 will be my first car:D:D:Dalthough I will now try norwich union and also ormus' link, Cheers, Jonathon
