I have just received back my Delphi DPS 290A injector pump after reconditioning. There is a warning label attached which says:
"This pump incorporates a lock timing device to ensure correct pump to engine timing. Do not unlock this device until the pump is installed on the engine. After installation, the locking device MUST be reset to the running position before starting the engine"
Does anyone know what this means? Is there something preliminary I am supposed to do, reset, etc ?
Or it just a matter of getting on with the normal timing proceedure ie lock pin in the engine flywheel and spindle lock in the injector pump etc etc?
Is there some extra action I am supposed to do first?
The injector pump spindle turns normally, so doesn't, infact, seem to be locked, and I can't think why it would need to be for timing a 19J Turbo Diesel.

Answer to my own question: I think the label was probably a generic one attached to all pumps by the dispatch dept at the reconditioners. I think reconditioned injector pumps are usually sent pre-locked in timing position - but (I assume / hope) doesn't apply in this case / with this pump - hence the confusion.

It's all "learn as you go....."

Never seen that sticker, although I have fitted several of those pumps.

The pulley only fits on the pump shaft in one position, because there is a keyway and key on the pump shaft.

So if the pump is properly fitted in the pulley, and the pulley is in the right position, the pump will be in the right place.
