Hi. I'm thinking about buying a 1991 Chevy Blazer, and I was looking for
info. What I'm basically looking for is a daily driver with some cargo room
that will be good in the snow. The one I'm looking at now is a 1991 with
150k on it. Tires look good, dealer is giving it a tuneup and a new water
pump. Body has a bit of rust starting in the places you would expect, I plan
on addressing that. I'm going to be test driving it tommorrow. The dealer
wants $2500 for it, $3200 with a 6 month warranty. I would be getting the
warranty. So, basically what I'm asking is whether or not this sounds like a
good deal, and what I should look out for before buying the vehicle. The
main thing that is kind of scaring me is the miles. If it runs good, can I
expect it to have a lot more life in it? Any advice or testimonial would be
appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Chris

BTW, the S10 Blazer 2 door with the 4.3 v6. Thanks.

First off, you're betting the dealer $700 that it's going to break
down in the next 6 months. That's pretty darn expensive insurance.
Second, $2500 may be too much. According to Edmunds, base retail
value is about $2,000.
Third, 150K is a lot of miles for a chevy blazer. They really are
not built that well. It's going to be a money pit. That car will
nickel and dime you to death, and then it will explode on the side of
the road. Heavy wear items are front axles, suspension parts and the
transmission. I'd almost bet that you'll only get 10K miles out of it
before it needs a major (expensive) repair.
Of course, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.

It really depends if it was taken care of. My 88 S-10 started falling apart
around 150k, but it was mostly due to rust. My rear brake line rusted, my
gas tank rusted out, my radiator rotted and blew. But mine was amud race
repo auction truck that lived in WV, Maryland and OH and was driven through
salt and never washed. I've heard of poeple having a lot less problems than
mine.

I had a 91 that was garbage. Constant trans problems, electrical
problems, and many others. I would recommend a cherokee instead. If
you get the 4.0 it will last forever.

I have a '92 with 180k miles. It is still driven daily by my son.
$2500 is WAY TO MUCH. It is worth more like $1000 maybe $1500 if
it is in mint condition.

My son is just about ready to buy a Taurus. When he does I figure
to sell the '92 with 180k for $900 or best offer.
