Indicators wont flash

I took the working bulb out the indicator and down the autoshop to get a matching bulb for other side. Now my indicators won't flash on either side, they just stay lit. So I swaped some wires so my side lights went through the flasher unit and yep they flash.
Any advice

not flashing usually means not enough current flow - make sure the bulbs are the right wattage (18?) the sockets are clean and the earths are good.

21w in indicator - not the side light makes a difference.
